A Market in Vargem Grande
Vargem Grande is a village in the southern, rural region of Sao Paulo founded in 1987 after a prison was built in the area. In 2001, its borders were restricted by the city government to limit expansion into the meteor crater nature preservice in which it exists. Within the village, there is no market or gathering space. This project adds this vital piece of urban infrastructure while negotiating the relationship between the vibrancy of the rain forest and urban fabric of the dense but remote village.
